For Xfce (and I think maybe KDE also) the window manager will use CTRL+F1-F12 to switch virtual desktops, overriding the Geany shortcut. You are absolutely right. I set the shortcut to Shift+F9 as suggested and it should appear in the a few hours in the CVS.
