Essentially it has to be command line and compatible with GNU grep (see note in manual regarding options used). And the output needs to be compatible so click on line in the message window will go to the file location. If grin can be set up that way you can use it.
Exactly. Plus one more little information just in case it isn't obvious enough: to actually change the executed command when using Find in Files, go to the preferences dialog and choose the Tools tab, there you can configure the used command.
