addons: color chooser opens not only on real color hex strings

I discovered, that double click opens color chooser not only for hex color strings, but for any strings, which have 3 valid hex digits in the end. For example, it will open for variable name, ending with "head". My version is 1.38.0, but it's gentoo package, not manually compiled. However, I checked ebuild - it uses no additional patches. Can it be still confirmed for upstream?

Geany on macOS via MacPorts

Greetings! I just joined the list; hope this is OK. You can now install geany and geany-plugins (1.38) on your Apple Macintosh via MacPorts. MacPorts is a software packaging system that brings thousands of open source software packages to the Mac operating system. After installing MacPorts (and Apple’s Xcode developer tools), you can install geany and most of the plugin collection with: sudo port install geany-plugins If you want a leaner install, you can install just geany with: sudo port install geany The default install of geany uses a X11 interface and so should be as similar as possible to other unix-based platforms if that is where you are coming from. More experimental at this point, but can also install geany with a Quartz-based interface with: sudo port install geany +quartz FYI, MacPorts has had a package (“port”) for geany for several years. I updated it to 1.38 recently and added the geany-plugins package. Feel free to ping me if there are any problems or questions. For more info on geany on MacPorts, you can look at https://ports.macports.org/port/geany/ https://ports.macports.org/port/geany-plugins/ AFAICT, geany and geany-plugins are both native and compatible with Apple-silicone macs (“M1”). geany built successfully on the MacPorts fleet of buildbots including the latest OS version on both X86_64 and arm64. el-files not recognized for syntax highlighting

Hello together, I use Geany 1.37.1 from the Debian stable (11, Bullseye) repository. When I open files with the suffix ".el" (which is common for Lisp or Emacs-Lisp) the syntax highlighting does not work because the file type is not set to "Lisp". I have to do this manually over the "Documents" -> "File type" menu. I couldn't find a section about it in the manual or in the settings dialog to modify this behavior. And from my point of view it feels like a bug because Geany itself knows Lisp but does not recognize Lisp-files (el). What can I do? Kind Christian

Good morning. I’m just beginning to use Geany. It’s nice. I have a question: why does this “LF” appear at the end of every line of code? I could not find the answer, so I ask here. Thank you, Manuel

New macOS binaries

Hi, I've just uploaded new macOS binaries to the downloads site. The main difference from the original release is that there are now 2 different binaries - one for x86_64 processors and one for arm64 processors and in the future I'd like to keep maintaining both of these platforms. There were some problems with the GTK theme used previously so I switched to another theme for this release which should provide better contrast ratios, screen real estate usage and fix some problems with popup menus. The Geany icon has been updated to be placed in a rounded rectangle so it looks more native to the platform (thanks to Pouya Kary for this!). There was also a problem with the spellcheck plugin in the previous release this release should fix. Enjoy! Jiri

Introduction

Hello everyone, I am geuristic. I'm a university student (Computer Science and Engineering) in my first semester and I know the basics of programming (almost everything on a conceptual level except OOPS). I am currently programming in Java (I haven't built any actual apps/programs yet) and have heard that C / C++ are actually really close to the system; so they give the programmer a more granular control (like garbage collection, memory allocation, etc.). Please point me to learning resources (perhaps the ones the developers used) to get me up to the mark of contributing towards geany? The resources I know about: Ritchie-Kernighan book on C (not good for beginners)

Yes, it is. But this gave me a push to try not putting "%d" at all in the working directory field, lo and behold, now it works. It might be a bug or something very counterintuitive - I'm 100% sure that the file main.tex is in the directory listed in the message window, and I'm 100% sure that the file path is as in the screenshot, i.e. just main.tex, not the full path to main.tex etc. But perhaps geany passes the full path to the command? Can these portable windows builds be trusted?

Some time ago (few years) I searched for portable windows build. There's one, at PortableApps, but that's what I found now: https://portableapps.com/apps/development/geany_portable What I found previously is for version 1.24: with filename GeanyPortable_1.24.paf.exe I don't remember where I got it that time, so I assume it has same source, although I never used it. I searched it mainly because learning in university, where machines use windows, so using portable version was the only way in case of need to get geany on windows for some reason. But it so happened, that I never had such need (just carried laptop with myself). Now I went across this file and decided to check for updates. What's interesting - publisher is named 'Geany Team', with url leading to geany site. However, I found no info, leading to portableapps, at download page, github tracker and users mailing lists (though I did not check other lists yet). So question - can that publisher be trusted, is it really related to geany team?
