Hi translators and friends of Geany,
After a long time I'm glad to finally announce string freeze for Geany 0.19 which is planned to be released in about 2 weeks.
I'd be very happy if you could send a patch or complete file with translation to either the geany-i18n mailing list or direct to me within the next two weeks so we can include it to the next release. Deadline will be 2010-06-02.
To make it more easy for you I've already uploaded updated versions of the po files to svn with r4948. You can access them as always at

or by checking out the svn tree of Geany by using e.g.

Hi again, I was just checking this last translation with tonight's nightly build and I wondered how the "Credits" section (in "Help/About") was updated. In other projects I have translated there's usually a "translator-credits" msgid in the po file that automatically appears in the about dialog, but in Geany I guess this information comes from the "THANKS" file. I would like to propose that Antonio Jiménez (the previous translator) and me be included there under the "es" section (maybe a little cleanup is necessary to move Nacho Cabanes and Damian Viano to the "Previous Translators" section, as their contributions are from 2007 and earlier).

Even its a bit more work I don't think its worth to implement something which is reading it out of the po files or some other file(s) as this might will cause different issues beside just forgetting to update the file from time to time.

No, Lucas' idea was not to parse information from somewhere but instead simply add a string like _("Translator credits") to the About dialog and this string is translated by something like "Frank Lanitz <frank@...de>", i.e. each translator adds his own name & email address in this string. This way, the string is always translated with the credits of the translator(s) of the currently used locale, not of all.
So, the work for keeping it up2date and correct isn't our job anymore but the job of the translators :).

The Next/Previous Error strings should be localised now. The other strings are basically localised but seem to be overwritten later.
In detail, probably only useful information for Lex: in the ASSIGNIF() macro, the "string" variable is properly localised but for some reason once Geany is started, the menu shows the English string. Maybe because it is read afterwards from the config? If so, I guess this is ok because these are user-configurable strings.

Attached is the completed translation for galician (gl).
I have had some trouble compiling the latest geany from svn, so I could not test the translation "live" on it. Good news: there have been very few changes/new strings since the last time I checked, so I hope everything is OK.
If I can get some time, I will keep on trying to build the last version and test the translation. If I find some problem, I will send a new translation. But I really think that everything should be fine.

Nothing "serious", i think. I am using Debian testing/unstable, and from time to time, things just don't work as expected. Right now, the issues are some gcc segfaults when running 'make', and some weird messages about some libtool missmatchs on something i don't remember right now (i'm not at my machine). So, I think it's a local thing. If I had time to "investigate", I should be able ti find out what's going on, hehe.

Now, some news: Good news: after some aptitude safe-upgrade, I was finally abble of compiling geany (that's good!) Bad news: remember those fuzzy strings? I can't find them anywhere on geany... (that's bad!) ...? news: I'm un-marking them as fuzzy anyway. (Frogurt!)

More good news: I'm "working against the clock", trying to translate geany-plugins. Maybe I can finish it this week, maybe not. I'll send the resulting work, be it completed or not, on the "geany-plugins" freezing announce mail thread.

Otherwise, search in comments for word "reword". The above is the only point I didn't used it in any form. BTW, Frank: I found a small typo in my translation (vtičnicet should be vtičnice or smth like that ("t" is too much!, previous/next entry). For now, this is all as I am not sure how to the 3 strings I have to translate.

Ok, thanks for the suggestion. Though for now we can't change it anyway because of the string freeze but we can after the release. Luckily, this error message shouldn't be shown often to users at all :).

Hello, here is the French translation (up to date with svn rev 4977). The fr.po attached contains a few fuzzy strings where I was unsure about the right wording or the context, but they can all be marked okay for the next release.
As for the "Architectures" string, following the discussion, I simply translated it as "Architectures" which is the correct term to designate hardware platforms such as x86.
I'm sorry for not having the time to translate geany-plugins, I'll try to make up for it for the next release ! Thanks for this new release,

I'd be very happy if you could send a patch or complete file with translation to either the geany-i18n mailing list or direct to me within the next two weeks so we can include it to the next release. Deadline will be 2010-06-02.
To make it more easy for you I've already uploaded updated versions of the po files to svn with r4948. You can access them as always at

As mentioned before, we are trying to have all translations complete by 2010-06-02.
If your language was translated by two or more in past, please double check directly with them or by pinging me, so we don't need to translate same things two or three times. Also please feel to ping me for every question or if you like to start a new translation for an unsupported language.
