I contributed the "Plugin Focus" and "Feature Focus" sections of the newsletter and I wonder what others thought of them. Was the language too simple or was it OK? Was what I said accurate? Was the screenshot shown in the "Plugin Focus" section OK? This was the first time I have ever annotated a screenshot so I wasn't sure if it looked OK.
I'd welcome any constructive feedback. If I know I've not made any obvious technical mistakes and the content I wrote for issue 1 was OK, I'll use the same approach for issue 2.
Thanks in advance.
Hi,

Totally OK IMHO, thanks for your work! :)
The only thing I feel weird about is the last sentences at the end of the feature focus, about the comment being the one for the filetype (I'd say "of course") and Geany being wonderful (again :D). I personally think this sentence is useless (hey, the user probably already uses Geany :D) and a bit... "self-congratulating", don't know the word. No big deal however :)
Was what I said accurate?
Seems, yeah :) Maybe speaking about shortcuts (default for toggle is Ctrl+E) would have been a plus, but maybe it's also a future Feature Focus (to be able to assign custom shortcuts to almost everything).

I won't tell you it's great art, but it does it job totally well IMHO. Maybe less red, but who cares anyway ^^
Cheers, Colomban

OK - I know that the language is OK.

OK, I understand the "self-congratulating" comment. I'll check the rest of what you said against what I wrote. I can't quite remember exactly.

Good point. I agree that I should have included shortcuts. As you also suggest, a Feature Focus should be the ability to assign custom shortcuts.

Not great art!? Of course it was. :P
As you say, perhaps I could have chosen a different colour.
Cheers, Colomban
Thanks for your honest and valuable feedback. In summary it seems that I've made a good start but have some areas to improve on.

I don't see a problem with this.
Best regards.

Being self congratulatory is a bit of a minefield, the tolerance level before its seen as negative varies from culture to culture and person to person.
In a volunteer contributed newsletter I don't think we can expect contributors to take all this into account, and we don't have a specific editorial board to review it, so I think they really can only write from their own point of view.
Cheers Lex

Colomban and others,
I have read and re-read the sections which I contributed to the newsletter and finally I think I understand the comment about it being a little too "self-congratulatory". What I was trying to emphasise with the part which starts "What's great..." was the usefulness of the feature. When I mentioned the aim of Geany I was (and this was and is only my opinion) expressing my view that Geany's primary aim is to help you in your development yet not be too invasive.
Again, thanks for the very useful feedback I have received so far. Now I need to get on and write some more for issue 2. :)
