Thanks Leo, I will try to change the keyboard layout ..... later :-) My login passwords (veracrypt and windows) have many of those characters

You didn't answer the question about keyboard layout, but shift-7 == & is US international layout similarly the / on US international is where the - is on Italian layout.
It seems however you are running Geany is telling it you are not in an Italian locale so the keyboard layout is wrong.

What OS are you running on, what is your locale, what is your keyboard layout?
