The global setting does not change the files, use the project->apply default indentation as Matthew and the dialog to set the default both said. And did you close the files or close Geany? Closing Geany remembers what the settings for open files are and keeps them when its re-opened. Closing the files makes it forget, but make sure you changed the file before you close.

Hi All,
$ rpm -qa geany geany-1.33-1.fc27.x86_64
I have Preferences --> Editor --> Indentation Type = spaces
I HATE TABS!!!!
How do I get this thing to stop converting my spaces into freakin' tabs ????
If you have a project open, change it in the Project settings dialog and then use Project-Apply Default Indentation to affect open documents. If no project, just re-open the files and the global setting should apply.

I don't know what a Project is, so I only have files open.
And the global setting don't work, unless I don't have the right place. I have opened and closed about 50 times already.
Did that. Entered nine spaces, then back spaced across three stinkin' tabs
Backspace backs up an indentation level, irrespective of what its made of. :)
The best way to make sure what you have is to View->Show whitespace and you get dots for spaces and arrows for tabs.
Cheers Lex
