Hi, Is it possible to put a big warning message on the SourceForge page to indicate that we're not using SVN there any more? It's really annoying from a user's POV[1] when a project abandons a repository and leaves it open without any obvious indication that it's not using that (see Scintilla CVS repository). I propose if we can't put a warning of some sort to tell users where to find the source code, that we take down the SVN repository, or maybe move it to geany.org (or elsewhere) just for historical purposes. Also, maybe the "News" on SourceForge.net should have an item for the switch from SVN there to Git on Github.com. Lastly, has anybody noticed that SourceForge.net has added those infamous evil[2] little social networking "like" links to our project page? Basically, we're now helping Twitter, Facebook and Google Plus to track our users against their will. I wonder if those can be disabled through the admin settings? A screenplay plugin for geany

Hi All, Screenwriting is the method of writing for TV and Movies. A specific format is prescribed to write content for these mediums. Currently specialized editors are used for these. The industry standards are Final Draft [0], and Movie Magic Screenwriter[1]. These sell for hundreds of $$, and are essentially just glorified text editor + pdf converter. The best open source (kinda) editor is a bloated piece of software called celtx[2]. Another good alternative is pago, a vim script, but vim is hardly an accessible editor for average joe writer[3]. And IMO, celtx is bloated, slow, and some functionality is hidden behind a webservice. Infact this format has been used over the past century, and most scripts were written on typewriters. yet there does not exist a simple and good free screenwriter. Here's the help I'm looking for from the geany developers.. help write a simple plugin that assist with writing .screenplay files. This will essentially boil down to defining 6 types of texts (s/a/c/p/d/t), and making sure that when new content is added to a dialogue, it wraps at the appropriate margins. If someone who understands the geany plugin system volunteers to help, I can make myself available anytime to help (I have made some notes). This is a highly sought after functionality in the open source world, and I believe no program so far has been able to provide a good alternative to the expensive commercial solutions. If this plugin is written, it will definitely attract many (MANY!) new people to the editor. I am quite proficient in python, and if this is the language for the plugins, I can help with writing it. Beyond that I will evangelise it, (and for what it's worth, provide credits in the film I just shot :). Geany icon on Mint

Hi all, My hard drive failed yesterday morning, so after installing a new one I decided to update the OS and installed the latest Linux Mint. Imagine my surprise when the Geany icon wasn't the familiar teapot, but https://github.com/elextr/geany_stuff/raw/master/geany.svg. I initially blamed Ubuntu since Geany was installed from its repository, sorry, but in fact Mint is overriding it with a theme. This looks like Arabic script to me, so Frank, can any of your translators tell us what it says? Things like "Geany" or "Worlds best editor" would be acceptable, but "may your code be infested with bugs" might not :) Cheers Lex

question, webhelper plugin on windows xp

Hi all, I not see information about webhelper plugin compatibility on the geany-plugin website. There is a part about requirements : This plugin requires GTK+ (>= 2.16), GLib (>= 2.16), GIO (>= 2.18), GdkPixbuf (>= 2.0), WebKitGTK (>= 1.1.18), and obviously Geany (>= 0.20) but i dont' know how i have to do or if it's possible on windows. So please where can i find information for using this plugin in windows XP environement ? Another question will be is it possible to have two times the plugin,like two tab ? Scintilla update?

Hey, What about updating our Scintilla copy? There is at least 2 fixes that would be particularly interesting to have: * C++ lexer fixed a bug with raw strings being recognised too easily. Bug #3388122. [1], [2] * On recent GTK+ 2.x versions when using Cairo, bug fixed where wrong colours were drawn. [3] So, have you anything against an update to Scintilla 2.29? Devhelp Plugin for Ubuntu 11.10+

Hi, I guess newer Ubuntu versions don't come with libdevhelp-2.0 but instead only libdevhelp-3.0 (for GTK+ 3). The Devhelp plugin should be able to work fine with libdevhelp-3.0, but I cannot test it and it won't work anyway because Geany does not support GTK+ 3. I was just looking into putting the source code for libdevhelp 2.32.0 (for GTK+ 2.0) statically into the Devhelp plugin's source tree and making Geany Plugins' build system compile it straight into the Devhelp plugin. It's seems like it's going to be a pain and I'm not totally sure I even want to do it. So anyway, even if I go this route, I probably won't be able to get it working and tested in time for packaging for Ubuntu 11.10+ of Geany Plugins 0.21 so don't bother trying to get it working for these packages. It also won't work on Debian testing/unstable and probably not on Win32 either. If anyone wants to use the Devhelp plugin with these newer distros, they'll have to install an older libdevhelp-2.0 package or compile Devhelp <= 2.32.0 from source and then obviously build the Devhelp plugin from Geany-Plugins' source. GTK+ Version Bump to 2.18

Hi all, According to the recent discussions on the mailing list, its sounds like we could safely require GTK+ >= 2.18 and still support a lot of enterprise/LTS/legacy distros. You might've noticed I pushed my gtkbuilder branch into geany/geany. To use this requires GTK+ 2.16 since it seems this is where lots of the GtkWidgets that Geany uses started to implement the GtkBuildable interface. This is at least according to what I read and the complaints from Glade 3. I've also been working on getting rid of some of the uses of sealed members (ex. widget->window as opposed to gtk_widget_get_window(widget)). It seems many of the accessor functions were added between 2.12 and 2.18. One of the functions that comes to mind that needs 2.18 and could be used in several places in Geany is gtk_widget_get_allocation(). So I was wondering if anyone was opposed to going from GTK+ 2.12 to 2.18 as the minimum supported GTK+ version. IMO, if we are going to raise the version this release cycle, it makes sense to do so sooner rather than later to maximize the time for finding and fixing bugs and so on. As a side topic; is there any way we can automate parts of changing the GTK+/GLib version numbers in all the various affected files? I was thinking maybe a small Python/Perl script or Autoconf substitution or something like this. It's just an idea that came to mind, it might be stupid/pointless. @Enrico: How much trouble does this cause for the win32 builds? Is it just changing the Waf/makefile.win32 files and then packaging a newer GTK+ binary pack next release? Cheers, Matthew Brush
