changes to the plugin interface

Hello, I'm not sure how high this is on the list of things to do, but I'd like to work on it; so I'll make sure I'm headed in the right direction before continuing. I'd like the plugin interface to support python. After some time on irc it seems two of the best solutions would be 1) re-writing the plugin interface to use gobject, or somehow refractoring the interface to do use gobject. This would allow us to support the languages gtk+ does, but might have performance and maintainability issues. The second (2) would be weaving python in using the Python/C API. This could provide more speed, but would only support python. Is it ok to only support python? Or would it be better to use gobject? Or is there a better solution? Thanks, Josh

filetypes

Hi there, I am a COBOL and PHP :-) developer. I can join to the geany development - mostly by creating a filetypes.cobol syntax highlighting file. Or is there an existing one for this? If there is no still filetypes.cobol, I would like to help to create it. I saw http://www.mail-archive.com/geany-devel@uvena.de/msg00750.html about COBOL syntax highlighting and filetype support I don't know if it succeeded to finish. Bye, Zoltán

Change to the Documents Notebook

Hi, I'm wondering about the possibility of adding an optional GtkNotebook to contain the documents widget. I have a the geany-devhelp plugin doing this as well as the geany-glade plugin (not online yet) in order to keep some sanity in the user interface. I also believe the WebHelper plugin could greatly benefit from this as well. To get an idea of what I'm talking about, see this screenshot: https://github.com/codebrainz/geany-devhelp/blob/master/geany-devhelp.png You cannot see the Documents notebook in this screenshot, but it's under the "Code" tab at the bottom, just above the Message Window. The Document notebook keeps it's tabs along the top while the new "Main" notebook puts its tabs on the bottom (it looked ugly with both on top). Some tab labels for this notebook that come to mind are Code(original Documents notebook with scintilla editors), Documentation(DevHelp), Design(Glade), Preview(WebHelper/WebKit), just to give some ideas. If you explore the code in that project, you can see how I've implemented this, particularly that I've added some code to allow the new "Main" notebook come and go as the first and last plugin that needs it loads and unloads (since I needed this for the glade plugin as well as devhelp plugin). The whole "Main" notebook being done from a plugin is pretty hackish, so I wanted to discuss the possibility of adding this into Geany itself and see what everyone though before I start hacking away for no reason (or if someone more skilled than myself would be willing to implement it). I don't think it would be terribly difficult to code this, but I'm certainly no expert. I really think this would be great, but I think it should be optional, defaulted to be off, maybe under preferences dialog and/or activated by certain plugins. This way those who want all of the integration possibilities of such plugins (and the overhead they bring) can have it and everyone else don't even need to care about it. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? P.S. Ignore the sidebar tab arrangement in the screenshot, I'm only referring to the "Main" notebook where the Documents notebook is (Code, Design tabs). The printer PPD is from the manufacturer (Samsung) so I suppose it should be right. I'm using Geany 0.20 standard Debian package that came from the update service, not SVN or anything special. Hello, I have recently faced a problem when printing with Geany. The problem is that pages are printed with zero margin, which is obviously not good (line-endings get cut off, as most printers have printing area less than A4 paper width). If I remember correctly, in some old versions of GNOME we could specify printer margins via common GNOME printing dialog. However, now it seems impossible (see http://library.gnome.org/devel/gtk/stable/GtkPageSetupUnixDialog.html (http://library.gnome.org/devel/gtk/stable/GtkPageSetupUnixDialog.html) as an example) I tried playing with CUPS settings, but it seems they are ignored. So I decided to integrate the workaround into Geany. I have modified printing preferences and "Document settings" tab in printing dialog, so users are now able to specify custom printer margins for all 4 sides in all kinds of GtkUnit. save find settings

Hi, On several occasions, we discussed that it would be a good thing to save the find/replace settings. So I wrote it. Note that when you check "regular expressions", Geany remembers the "case sensitive" state, and restores it when regex is unchecked. This remembered state is not saved, so after restart, you'll get "regular expressions" and "case sensitive" 1:1. The state was partially wrong, shared between the Find and Replace dialogs (their settings are separate), so I created separate states. Truth to be said, I can't grasp why regex and case are bound like that. Is there any reason to stash_group_display(fif_prefs) each time the FiF dialog is shown, instead of doing it once on dialog creation? The fif settings won't change between invokations. -- E-gards: Jimmy

GTK version

I'm in the process of adding my plugin to geany-plugins. I've come across problems as several library functions are only available from version 2.12, and some from 2.16. Is there a reason why we're sticking to version 2.8. If not, could we move to a more recent version. I should be able to adapt my plugin, but it would involve me including a copy of these standard library functions code in the plugin which seems needless bulking up of the plugin. William
