I just checked this scrolling behaviour with some other programs:
OpenOffice 3: very small CPU load
scribes (using gtksourceview): very high cpu load
gedit (also using gtksourceview): very high cpu load

Not sure if this is useful or interesting for someone.

Well, i forgot to mention my system:
AMD Duron with 1800MHz, 1G RAM
