What exactly do you mean with 'the geany patch'?
I'm going to add your R symbol parser to SVN.

For the syntax highlighting issue, please open a bug report at the
Scintilla project as Lex said and attach the patch their if you have
We'll get the changes into Geany when we update our Scintilla copy or
we can also manually backport the change. But, also as Lex said, we'd
like to stay as close as possible with Scintilla upstream.
