Additionally, on http://www.geany.org/Download/ThirdPartyPackages there
are many distros listed which ship Geany by default.

Specifically for Debian it's very easy:

apt-get install geany

This usually pulls in the latest version except you are using Debian
Stable and even then, there is the backports[1] project which has the
latest version for Debian Stable.
