I would like to keep it as it is. To refer again to Firefox ;-): there
the background colour also stays when switching between tabs and I like
it because you still see that your last search wasn't successful. I
think it is not really dependent on the current document.
But it's only my opinion and others are welcome.

Fixed in SVN 1692. Thanks.

Open the preferences dialog and check "Always wrap search and hide the
Find dialog".
