Strange. The part of configure.in where the error happens, didn't
change for a long time.
Does it help if you run ./autogen.sh again? If not, which version of
automake and autoconf do you have installed? Which shell are you using?

Does the configure script packaged in the Geany 0.9 release tarball
work?
