As the article says, two out of three options are from standard libraries, so yes its common, at least on Linux.  

As the wiki article explains their are differing sweet spots between the parameters of safety, portability, and performance.  So there are differing options available because different Geany users have different needs, one size does not fit all.

But one thing it does not do is use native windows IO, so that may account for other apps working if they do use windows calls that mountainduck understands better.

Since nobody in the Geany team uses remotes on windows using the system you do, we can't really do much to help and its going to be up to you to try the differing options in Geany and mountainduck and how they interact to see if there is a combination that works.
