@philiprbrenan The window shown in the image is not the terminal window, its the build output window, which for an IDE is usually the compiler output, hence the tab name.
This window already allows jumping to file contents, by filename and line number, by clicking on a line *if it can parse the line* to extract the information. Since the error lines from various compilers are different, the parsing is dependent on the language, or some magic built-ins, or regular expressions you can configure yourself. It would be very helpful to be able to open other files mentioned in the terminal window by some mechanism like ctrl-shift-O does in the main window. Otherwise one has to copy all the terminal output into a new tab and then apply ctrl-shift-O to it - which takes time and effort. The terminal window does, after all, display, more than just compiler output - it can be used to see the output of any command that you specify in build tools.
It would indeed be useful to open files mentioned in build output that do not get detected because the compiler writers got a little bit inconsistent in how they laid out the message (looking at you clang++). But the difficulty is identifying what part of the line is the filename. The compiler tab is a table not a text window, so you can't select only part of a line or move the cursor to a position inside it.
I see! Perhaps then a command that copies the terminal line (or area) to a new edit window where the user can then process it as they see fit?
Right click on a line in the compiler tab has a `copy` option, that copies to clipboard so you can paste that anywhere.
For instance after the following run:
`makeWithPerl --perl --run "Doc.pm" (in directory: /home/phil/z/perl/cpan/JavaDoc/lib/Java)` ` 18 lines of documentation written to:` ` /home/phil/z/java/documentation.html` ` Compilation finished successfully.`

Yes, one can copy the contents of the terminal to the clipboard, ctrl-n to create a new window, then ctrl-v to paste it in, then ctrl-shift-o to open it, but this takes time. Geany is a marvellous productivity tool, productivity in the West is declining, we must fight this decline by constantly improving our favorite tools so that we do not decline too.

It's confusing in this context to keep calling it "terminal" as that means a completely different part of Geany's UI (the "Terminal" tab, containing an actual terminal emulator). This is why I changed the title/description.

I'm pretty sure a well written patch that goes through the compiler tab's tree view and finds things that look like filenames and hyperlinks them to open in the editor would be accepted, especially if it was optional.
