Are you sure you downloaded the dictionary files correctly? They should contain just plain text, no HTML or anything else. I can reproduce the described behaviour if the dictionary files are invalid.
That was it...thank you! On the `freedesktop.org` tree view, I right-clicked on the HTML link to the `aff` and `dic` files thinking they would just download in whatever native (text) format. I had to first open the `aff` and `dic` files in a browser page, view thema as plain text and then save them. Now it works. Thank you for your help!
