geany 1.37.1 (built on Nov 13 2020 with GTK 3.24.23, GLib 2.66.2)
Linux kali 5.10.0-kali3-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 5.10.13-1kali1 (2021-02-08) x86_64 GNU/Linux
Before turning completely to GNU/Linux I used Geany on Windows with no problems or bugs at all, just Perfect !
Using 'Kali Linux', I don't know why after almost every time I save a file(usually Python) or run it(which saves and then runs) Geany freezes for about 2 seconds, and what I mean by 'freezes' is literally freezes, can't move the mouse cursor or write any thing or navigate to another file(No matter how I installed it ,usually using apt , even tried many times to fully uninstall and remove all it files and then reinstall , with no use).
I don't know if the problem is with Kali more than with Geany, but I would appreciate any help cause just imagine that I have been using PyCharm and VS Code then after finding Geany it became by far my favorite and most used editor , but with that extremely annoying bug 'Geany on Kali Linux' it lead me to uninstall Geany for some time.
I do love Geany, such amazing app with just a few megabytes , thanks so much Geany developers and contributors

Dear all,
at first i tried geany + plugins from Ubuntus standard repositories with their apt manager. I could see all the plugins in the plugin manager but no "debugger" option.
After de-installation I stepped over to self compilation geany-1.37.1 and geany-plugins-1.37. After installation of libvte-2.91 configure in plugin show me that debugger option is enabled. Compiling of both packages was fine - debugger.so was created. So I installed all things with admin right in the default location /usr/local.
Geany/Toolbox/Plugin-manager still show a lot of plugins - but no "debugger". /usr/local/lib/geany/debugger.so is available.
Same behavior is compiling from github.
For me looks that only the entry of the debugger plugin is missing. How I can check it? Where is something like log file after starting the program?
Can you help me, please.

Relevant settings:
- long line marker = 72, enabled
- indent type = tabs
- tab width = 8
I noticed `C-j` sometimes does nothing even though a line is well over the long line marker but adding some more chars to the line occasionally makes it work.
Reproduce (with the setting from above):
- open new doc
- insert 8 tabs
- insert "a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a"
- notice the cursor position is 127, but if you select everything it shows "sel: 71" in the status area
- press `C-j` and notice nothing changes
- insert a space
- press `C-j` and notice it got reflowed nicely taking indentation into account.
To me the culprit is the following piece since it doesn't take tab width into account

Geany version 1.37 "Wolbam" (built on or after 2020-11-09) Using GTK+ v3.24.5 and GLib v2.58.3 runtime libraries
Linux wirth 4.19.0-16-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.19.181-1 (2021-03-19) x86_64 GNU/Linux
Computer is an old ASUS Gigabyte box with 4 gigabytes of RAM and a 128 gigabyte SSD.
When Geany is started from a terminal, it takes a couple of minutes to open all project files (166 in this example) and operates correctly for normal activities. Attempting to close the project (menu: Project -> Close) goes through the motion of closing files individually, probably all of them but the failure might be occurring partway through. Geany terminates and leaves only a message stating "segmentation fault" in the starting terminal.
I start Geany from a desktop link under usual operation but there is no information after the failure that way.
A variety of projects with smaller open file counts behave correctly. I don't know where the file count threshold might be.
It is possible to close all files separately, then close the project, with the intent to open another. The result is a project file with no record of files in the project which must be re-opened manually. But using the menu: File -> Close All fails in the same way.
A separate project with 47 open files will open and close correctly without Geany terminating. The project file still has the file list available for next project open.
Possibly a related fault: sometime the close project for a smaller project will go through the motions of closing all files but will leave them still open. I have no more information on when it might happen.

On Linux, it is possible to use only keys to make a rectangular selection, but on a Mac, this appears to be broken.
System Version: macOS 10.15.7 (19H15)
Kernel Version: Darwin 19.6.0
Perhaps I need to change a keybinding? (attached)

Please tell me how to engage column mode editing on a Mac? Shift+command does not seem to work. I was trying to explain this useful feature to a new user and realized that the documentation does not make this clear, nor does set keyboard short cuts. I.e. it is a useful feature but not immediately obvious how you get it it on a Mac. The doc reproduced below does not help either. It would be useful during new user onboarding it this were a settable keyboard combination that could be easily found and set as needed.
Column mode editing (rectangular selections)
There is basic support for column mode editing. To use it, create a rectangular selection by holding down the Control and Shift keys (or Alt and Shift on Windows) while selecting some text. Once a rectangular selection exists you can start editing the text within this selection and the modifications will be done for every line in the selection.
It is also possible to create a zero-column selection - this is useful to insert text on multiple lines.

"document sidebar -> right click on folder -> new file" to create new file in this folder instead of browsing to the destination directory manually in the save dialogue.

Hi all,
I've successfully built the current master of geany and geany-plugins from source with the scope plugin. However, local variables are not updated automatically in scope. Actually, all the local variables disappear from the "Locals" tab whenever you step, step into, step out or run until cursor during the debugging process. If you right-click refresh in the tab, the local variables are correctly shown in the tab.
The test program is a simple C code which adds several numbers.
Is this a minor bug in the plugin? I currently tested on Linux Mint 18.3 Sylvia (based on Ubuntu 16-04) with a 4.10.0-38-generic 64bit kernel, and on a Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS with a 4.4.0-75-generic 64bit kernel.
Thanks in advance!
