    Here the Geany plugin «Save Actions» is invaluable

    Set «Directory to save backup files»
    and «Date time format for backup file»

    and before you know it, you've got NN backup copies

    e.g. My work this morning on a little Perl script
    called "Convert_t2t_to_Docbook_to_ePub.pl" has
    kept 16 backup copies*
