I would not guess that, either.

I don't know how Geany is uninstalled in Windows, but I guess the 
configuration-files are kept. So you might want to delete them[1] 
manually after uninstall and then reinstall Geany.

Just to get this right: The colouring was OK before you changed the 
language?
