[Geany] column mode freezes geany

Yes. And it's exactly the same when using Ctrl+Alt without the column
mode plugin, and the same in SciTE - that is, the column mode in the
Scintilla editing widget is slow.

With the extrasel plugin, you can at least use Ctrl-[Alt]-Shift
-Left/Right for whole words instead of single columns, and ...-Home/End
for top/end of the document. But for lots of lines, you'd better make
a stream selection first (Select to Line is helpful, if you know the
final line#), and then convert it by activating Column Mode.

When using Scintilla < 3465, this conversion causes a serious delay -
Ctrl+Alt-Shift-Left/Right is faster, but sometimes the selection will
become wrong - so you'd better get a current svn Geany. Overall, the
rectangle selection and virtual spaces in Scintilla are not very good.
