That might be the best bet.

Except if the user is in the middle of a multi-line command ( e.g. echo \ )
But I also notice my patch is won't work for this case either.

As far as the other shells like dash or zsh, I'm not sure how much you
can worry with that, since there is no telling what sort of interpreter
might be running in the terminal. (Perl,Python,Lua, gdb....)

Maybe for some shell "cd" means "crash drive" ?  ;-)
