<p>Mousepad had <a href="https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15799" rel="nofollow">a similar bug</a> which I investigated and is explained in <a class="issue-link js-issue-link" data-error-text="Failed to load title" data-id="476467619" data-permission-text="Title is private" data-url="https://github.com/shimmerproject/Greybird/issues/248" data-hovercard-type="pull_request" data-hovercard-url="/shimmerproject/Greybird/pull/248/hovercard" href="https://github.com/shimmerproject/Greybird/pull/248">shimmerproject/Greybird#248</a>.</p>
<p>TLDR; it's a GTK+ bug that can be and is corrected for in some themes, but not others.</p>
