<p>ummm, in the bash case the non-login/non-interactive case (dark blue) line stops at BASH_ENV and never gets to running <g-emoji class="g-emoji" alias="grin" fallback-src="https://github.githubassets.com/images/icons/emoji/unicode/1f601.png">😁</g-emoji></p>

<p>This is what I see as the primary issue, and, despite <a class="user-mention" data-hovercard-type="user" data-hovercard-url="/hovercards?user_id=564520" data-octo-click="hovercard-link-click" data-octo-dimensions="link_type:self" href="https://github.com/kugel-">@kugel-</a>'s protests, even on Linux users (or some install scripts) will set stuff up in .bashrc not in .profile, so again it doesn't work.</p>
<p>And then there are those places where /bin/sh is actually dash not bash or zsh.  I do hope it is actually sh compliant?</p>
