Ok, well thats considered.

I havn't had time to look at the code yet, but the idea seems reasonable but its not perfect:

1. not really in favour of majik things like changing behaviour depending on a path being relative or absolute, and
2. it still has the issue of paths outside the project tree accessing unknown files if its moved to another machine, eg via git.

Nonetheless it seems less problematic than some of the previous attempts.
