@jradxl Lua 5.4 is *not* a drop-in replacement for Lua 5.1, so it would require major rewrites.  I doubt any migration will occur until after distribution of Lua 5.1 is dropped from most major distros.  That could be years, decades from now.  By then, the most current Lua could be 5.10 or later.
