I think it's not yet ready to merge:
- it seems this branch contains parts of #2938 ???
- `make distcheck` fails, see log at https://gist.github.com/eht16/792145594d9904e9aa9e8829afbd70f1
- could you rebase onto master to get CI back for this PR? This would probably also uncover the `make distcheck` error
- the Meson build fails for me with: `../../home/enrico/projects/geany-meson-kugel/meson.build:155:9: ERROR: Object <[IntegerHolder] holds [int]: 1> of type int does not support the `bool()` operator.`

All tested on current Debian Testing.
