I just checked that even if I get the squiggle indicator on the emoji, I don't get a crash (nor any complain from Valgrind). I'm using 1.37 though, which *did* upgrade Scintilla.

Could you try building latest Geany (with debug symbols ideally) and see if you still reproduce?
