You are correct that its a diversion from the issue at hand.

All I did was propose a possible reason why nobody else has seen the problem (not knowing much about Suse, but assuming a rolling release is bleeding edge).  That possibility may not be correct.

If its a version of VTE thats common (not for me on an LTS distro :) then that just makes it more unusual that nobody else has reported it, and makes it look a distro specific problem. 

As I noted I am not aware of any regular contributors using Suse and none of them have reported the problem on other distros, so that would also tend to also suggest its specific to the distro.
