So, how to proceed? If they are not documented I need to find another way to get them into the gir. I don't think there's going to be a solution that allows the GIR generation to be fully automated.

Up to now I wasn't even aware we had a notion of private member fields. I think this stresses the public/private thing a bit too much and is a practical barrier for my GIR effort.
