I'm on a laptop keyboard, with no numeric keypad, so I've no NUM LOCK/0 to try.

You can tell if you're in INS or OVR mode on the status line on the bottom of the window.

I tried all the recommendations for Fn and ⌘ key combos, but none of them work. The Accessibility Keyboard/Keyboard Viewer has a numeric keypad, but it only works as expected (0=0 appears).

I shall ask nicely for a toggle to be added somewhere, so I can create a key binding for it or something similar.

That reminds me. The zero key on my numpad acts as an Insert key when
the numpad is disabled. I've hit that by accident at times.
