Now the GIO path fully uses GIO both for loading and saving documents, it could be useful to fully support GVFS path-less URIs, i.e. without gvfs-fuse.
Apparently it would help some people on weird systems like OpenBSD which just removed it or something.
It's however tricky as we currently assume we have a local path. Some things that need to be done:
- [ ] allow for not having a local path (likely breaks plugin API) - [ ] make TM work without a local path - …

I want to resume the work on #963 but I'd like to get in #1070 first because some TM stuff will need to know if GIO is being used (in particular tm_get_real_path() which has nothing to do with TM and is there just for historical reasons and which should be deprecated and moved to utilities under something like utils_get_real_path()).

As mentioned in IRC i am putting a 50€ bounty on this ticket. As a simple thank you for the person doing the work. If more than one person has helped implementing it i am letting @b4n decide who gets the money.
Thanks and greetings Leo
Hey friends, I am bumping the bounty up to 200€. I hope this helps to get this feature in very soon.
Thanks Leo
@LeoUnglaub Just out of curiosity have you tried #963 ? It should more or less work. I hope to find some time during this release cycle to resume the work on this. (I don't really care about the bounty myself - if the work is eventually done by me, you can donate the money to the Geany project.)
@techee i have not tryed your patches yet. But i have to give it a try as soon as i get home. They look very promising and i would love to see them in the next Geany release. I am sure a lot of people would love to see them beeing merged.
