Gnome desktop team has changed their guidelines for their icon theme (https://developer.gnome.org/hig/stable/icons-and-artwork.html.en). They are flatter, simpler and need only two styles full color and symbolic. I thought it could be an occasion to refresh Geany icon and conforming with these new HIG. Here are my proposals, is it a good idea? What do you think of it? Tell me what I can improve :)
Full-color : ![geany_icon](https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/9469099/48549281-a04bda00-e8cf-11e...)
Symbolic : ![geany_symbolic](https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/9469099/48549283-a04bda00-e8cf-11e...)
Nowhere on the page you linked does it say they should be flat and simple, in fact it says "Full-color icons are colorful and detailed, and are optimized for larger sizes. ".
So prefer the current icon.
I understand, that was just a suggestion. Do you wish I rework the current icon a bit (thinner border or smoother gradient) or some graphic related work?
I guess we should see what other people say first.
Is I am other? :)
Here are my proposals, is it a good idea?
No, completely different kettle: different size, different proportions, rhombuses of the same size. Only the color is similar (more or less) to the original.
And what about something more of a restyling, more faithful to the original?

@maxencedubois Thank you for the effort.
At least for me familiarity breeds contentment, and so I am content with the current cute fat little teapot :)
But I won't oppose it if others want a change so long as its generally consistent with the recognised Geany icon.
PS I think originally it was intended to be a magic lamp that a genie (homophone of Geany) lived in.
But magic lamps are slim and don't make good icons, so over the years its become a teapot :)
A symbolic icon might be a good idea as it seems to be what's used for a11y high contrast themes, but I like our current design best myself (it might be for the same reasons as @elextr that I'm used to it so I naturally am biased). So that would suggest creating a symbolic icon reproducing fairly faithfully our current color icon.
--- PS: I fairly like the one in the first post though, it could be nice part of a flatter theme. A problem it might have is not being square-ish, which generally causes balance issues on icons, which are commonly square.
@ b4n Here's the symbolic icon:

What do you think of it? It's viewed from the side so we can see that's a kettle.
Is it ok or should I close the issue?
I think I'd prefer a symbolic version closer to the current icon. If you wish to make one, go ahead, otherwise I think your current proposal should rather go to a 3rd party theme.
I've tried this. Quite hard to translate current icon to symbolic. The full color icon is quite sophisticated. What do you think of it?
