I've installed Geany 2.0 on a new Windows 11 PC. Got all my build tools copied over from the 'old' PC. I can use my function keys to invoke my build commands and context sensitive help. Great.
Only problem is... None of the character keys work in Geany 2.0. If I install Geany 1.3.7 I can type normally, but not in Geany 2.0.
The backspace key works, the arrow keys work, the tab key works, the enter key works but no "printed" letters appear when typing. No numbers, no characters, no symbols.
Am I missing something silly?
I must repeat, everything works perfectly well in Geany 1.3.7 on the same PC, same keyboard, everything. Just not in Geany 2.0.
I have no idea what could cause this. Just a few questions: - did you try 2.0 with a fresh config, i.e. without anything from your old installation? - other input fields like the search field in the toolbar or the scribble text area in the Message window work as expected? - what keyboard layout do you use?
Does [1.38](https://github.com/geany/geany/releases/tag/1.38.0) work? Between 1.37 and 2.0 the biggest Windows change is the switch to GTK3 and amd64 builds I believe (see #2590), and those affect 1.38 as well.
Thanks for the suggestions, I'll try to reply to them all.
I deleted 1.37.1 then installed 2.0, when Geany was run by the installer at the end of the installation process, it worked fully, I could type normally. I then closed it down and ran it again from the desktop shortcut, I couldn't type. I couldn't type in either the scribble area, a new file or an existing file. If I started Geany 2.0 as an Administrator, I could type, as a user I couldn't. I tried to give myself 'Ownership' of the Geany folder and gave myself full permissions of the folder but that didn't help, only starting Geany as an administrator allows me to type. I presume there are some permissions that I need to run it normally but for the moment can't see where.
I tried to install 1.38 and it too ran after the installer completed with no problems, but after closing and re-opening I can't type. Again, if I right click the shortcut and 'Run As Administrator' I can type normally.
