I am using Linux Mint Cinnamon 22.0 Wilma, and am unable to do a fresh install of Geany because of this error. The French message is about lack of permissions to create, or access the configuration files?
Is this a Geany installation error, or a Linux Mint error?
It doesn't look like a problem on the Geany side. Shouldn't the installer be run with super-user privileges so it can install Geany into system directories? Do you by any chance get the same error when trying to install other software too?
Thanks for your reply. I agree with you, but I had to report it. It is most likely a Linux Mint installation error, because I posted there as well which may be the cause.

To be clear Geany project does not create Linux system specific install mechanism. That is created by the particular system itself and may be used by other systems, or may not be the same between systems. No matter which system you are installing, that is where to report. It may not even be known and definitely not supported by the Geany project.
Thanks. I reported it, in case anyone else has the problem. But, it took me awhile to realized that it originated with the OS installation.
