matrixxx-dev created an issue (geany/geany#4244)
I would like to address a problem that has already been dealt with: "PRIMARY selection should be stable #2323"
The 'normal' behavior of the PRIMARY selection in Linux (middle mouse button) is that it remains until a new selection is made. That is also my opinion.
Some editors respect this behavior. For example, Mousepad, Bluefish, CodeLite, SciTE, and a few more ... Therefore, it should be noted that SciTE is a reference implementation of Scintilla. CodeLite use Scintilla too.
In Geany, after making a selection, a left mouse click anywhere in the editor (without a selection) of the same document deletes the PRIMARY selection. You can no longer paste it.
However, none of the aforementioned editors exhibit this behavior. Also SciTE. So I do not belief the behavior comes from Scintilla. That's why I think I can't post a feature request on Scintilla.
And So it could be that it has something to do with Geany. And i do not belief the behavior is normal X11 operation. Otherwise, the other editors will do something wrong.
I would now ask you to please consider this once more. Thank you.

IIUC this is a duplicate of #3658, isn't it? This has been fixed in Scintilla, and the fixed Scintilla version will be part of next Geany version. Note that filling the PRIMARY cliboard in Scintilla (and at least some others), requires trying to paste at least once: "select, paste, left click paste works", but "select, left click, paste" doesn't. That might need improvement, but this should be in line with Scintilla (and so, SciTE.
If you can still reproduce your issue with current development version of Geany, feel free to give more details and reopen. BTW, note that you're not saying anything about which Geany version you use, so there's some elements of guess at play -- but anyway, stuff in this area have been fixed in the current development cycle.
Closed #4244 as duplicate.

Thank you very much for your quick response! You are absolutely right. I use trixie/sid with geany 2.0-2. Unfortunately, I had overlooked the other requests. (I am also looking forward to the next Geany version - as an enthusiastic user, thank you)

For the sake of completeness: I use LXDE, X11
