[On geany.org](https://geany.org/) says:
**Geany is Good Ol' Fashioned Free Software. Using the GPL v2 license**, Geany assures that not only can you customize and hack it, but that everyone benefits from changes the community makes.
But [on snapcraft.io](https://snapcraft.io/geany-gtk) says
**License**: Proprietary
I'm afraid the Geany project does not make snaps, you need to ask whoever makes the snap to explain.
This is a common issue with Snaps whose license information wasn't specified correctly (or not in compliance with the specification).
So everyone complain to snapcraft, they have a license violation option in the "report this app" link (in really small letters near the bottom of the page)
I did the "report this app" thing with the following message:
I believe the license field for this `geany-gtk` is not correctly set, probably just left at some default. It shoulda be GPL v2, not "Proprietary". I don't know how to contact the contributor who maintains it, so could you please ping them and ask them to fix it?
The full text of Geany's license is here: https://github.com/geany/geany/blob/master/COPYING
The related Geany bug report is here: https://github.com/geany/geany/issues/2497
Yeah I did too with similar language.
Not that I'm a cynic, but I suspect the more people who ping them the more likely that they will do something.
Reported too, just copy-pasted the text from @codebrainz
