Indeed. While I'm still waiting for your feedback (see comment https://github.com/geany/geany/pull/560#issuecomment-172354370), I started working on a companion script for Geany-Plugins based on your initial script and my above mentioned changes. It's almost complete, will probably open a PR later this week.
