Ive been trying the save backup file plugin and it doesnt work all the time, I make a change and save to a file in my dir to be backed up and no copy is created in the backup directory.

What plugin settings are you using? When doesn't it work, never, sometimes, and if sometimes under what conditions does it fail? Seems to work reliably for me.
