I can't reproduce on Geany 1.37 (from January 14), fr_FR.utf8 / GTK 3.24.5, GLib 2.58.3 under Debian Buster, nor with latest Git.
What puzzles me a bit is that I don't see obvious changes that would have affected this. Could you try latest version (1.37) and see if it fixes it for you?
