Just wondering, have you tried https://reactos.org/ ? I haven't but if you manage to get it running, it might offer a more usable environment than the old Windows 7.
To save you some time, I just tried it but the default build is 32bit only and doesn't even allow starting the msys2 installer. There seems to be a 64bit nightly version at
https://iso.reactos.org/livecd/
which I haven't tried but I think 64bit is still experimental and possibly not stable.
