There are no news on the upstream issue yet.
I'm wondering if we should merge #3091 already even if not 100% sure if it is the correct approach but it seems to workaround the problem at least.
If it is actually a bug in libvte, then #3091 might be still good until it is fixed and for users with older unfixed versions.
