What about the idea that I ask the gtk community to change the GTK default behavior?
Well, you can always try, but given we are talking about GTK3 which is pretty much in maintenance only I would have expected that they won't make such changes.
Also don't know what the GTK4 behaviour is, maybe find a simple GTK4 app and see if its the same?
