@AdamDanischewski like I said above, Geany will NOT read files with NULs in them, no point in searching for them, also it validates UTF-8 inputs. Its fine with non-ASCII characters so long as they are valid UTF-8.
@hdaz000700 300Mb should be ok, so long as you have enough memory, but that would have other effects, not weird displays. The screen shots you posted above, are they at the start of the files or far down it?
