Maybe updating the translation files is not necessary at all. It would happen with the next string freeze automatically.
For the upcoming release it's too late, I think :(.
I didn't check the GIT history and I don't remember but there is a certain probability that it was me introducing "dd.mm.yyyy" as default format as this is the German variant and I'm used to it. My excuse is that this was more or less 18 years ago and I was young and ignorant :).
