Just tried the binary sizes with the last 3 patches and got

2696256 master
2776960 this branch

so about 3% binary increase which isn't too bad I think. Compilation time-wise it's something like this:

0m33.961s master
0m35.677s this branch

This is real time on a quad-core machine.
