It wasn't meant to be heated, just badly misunderstood behaviour by different systems, and neither of us having the same system ;-), and Cinnamon and XFCE behave different so we have misunderstandings, so we had to get ourselves having a suitable understanding. Cinnamon just needs wider CSS entry so users can resize the sidebar, but I still don't know why XFCE doesn't?

So #4023 is a good countermeasure to just help users to get the panes back easily, even if it is not Geany's fault.

As I said above "Perhaps you could make #4023 closer to Vscode as you suggested, it not do resize if it hides, that would be useful for the user instead of trying to get a width again after its unhidden."

Just the first solution in a PR doesn't have to be the best one until we finish discussions.
