Up to you to raise a separate feature request to change the behaviour and see what others think (of course an attached PR will usually be considered positively ;-), all I have done here is explain why this issue is not a bug.
Certainly nobody is asking for the GTK default. But its what you get when nobody considers it worth the effort coding something else.
